Mamma Mia

My husband and I went on another fabulous date. I saw Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, and he saw Skyscraper. I love Dwayne Johnson (The Rock), but I love cornball musicals even more.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again contained no surprises, but that was fine by me. I loved the trip down memory lane as well as the actors who portrayed young Donna, Tanya, Rosie, Sam, Harry, and Bill. Amanda Seyfried (Sophie) and Lily James (young Donna) are lit-from-within delights. And who cares that Meryl Streep (old Donna) has pale gray eyes and Lily James’s (young Donna) eyes are dark brown? Maybe no one else will notice!

The music was superb in spite of the fact the Pierce Brosnan still can’t sing. Most everyone else can, to some degree, and the song and dance numbers totally worked.

Then there was Cher and her Fernando. What can I say? Cher. Not a line on her face! I know it’s hard to believe, but her voice has deepened with age. She’s fabulous! And Andy Garcia never disappoints.

Other than a young woman who was helping her grandmother with her walker, I was probably the youngest person in the theater. At one point the characters burst into song in such an awkward way that I felt embarrassed to be there, but I got over that in about ten seconds.

Nine hearts out of ten for pure fun. Six hearts out of ten if you noticed the inconsistencies with the timeline, but who cares about that?
